I guess AVG is not doing so well when it comes to component update. Download the latest installer from AVG itself (just to be safe, not from 3rd party), I do a clean uninstall (remove user setting and delete the AVG8 folder), restart system then proceed with clean installation. Works for me, my recommendation is give it a try... Nothing to lose coz it's free anyway... Chow...
